K-Sim Engine Room Simulator Training

As a major world-wide supplier of ship automation and control systems, KONGSBERG has a detailed knowledge of the systems used onboard and a thorough understanding of the industry’s training needs.

Our K-Sim Engine is a sophisticated engine room simulator system for training students and crew in basic, advanced and emergency scenarios in a safe environment. K-Sim Engine product family includes a range of engine models, all of which are certified by DNV and exceeds the existing STCW requirements.

competence saves money and the environment

Crew competence is the key to improve economy and safety in the maritime industry. Understanding the process is crucial for engineers to achieve optimum engine control in day-to-day operations and for handling emergencies and abnormal situations that might occur.

All K-Sim Engine models are developed based on actual ship specifications and performance data, making the simulator as realistic as possible. K-Sim Engine provides high-quality training in every aspect, from details in a single sub-system to the overall running of a propulsion system.

The learning objective is to understand and operate the entire engine room system in a safe, timely and cost-effective manner. Whether choosing a K-Sim Engine full mission or PC desktop system, students or employees will learn a vast array of skills thanks to the pedagogical values and high fidelity realism the engine room simulator systems offer.

Proper simulator training is an effective way to build crew competence, and provide confidence and relevant experience. Simulators can maximize performance and lead to enhanced operational safety and efficiency.

CHOOSE BETWEEN CLOUD-BASED, DESKTOP AND FULL MISSION SIMULATOR SOLUTIONS

The K-Sim Engine models are extremely flexible. To fit your exact requirements, the simulators can be configured for a desktop computer or an operational full mission simulator using custom panels and equipment like for instance a real automation system, K-Chief. This gives a new level of realism, as crew can train on the identical equipment that they will later operate onboard ships.

CLOUD-BASED - class D

All K-Sim Engine models can be delivered as  cloud-based training solutions through the K-Sim Connect portal. This is a online/eLearning solution compliant with DNV’s Class D certification. It enables students to carry out simulation training anytime and anywhere.

DESKTOP - class c

The desktop solution fulfills DNV’s Class C requirements and is ideal for basic engine room  training in a class room set up. The system typically includes 1-25 student stations and 1-2 instructor stations to create and manage the simulation exercise.

FULL MISSION - class a

The full mission system is compliant with DNV’s Class A certification and includes an instructor station, an engine control room and an engine room with all the equipment needed. Some models can be delivered with a 3D BigView and a 3D walk-through system optimizing the learning experienceBy adding realistic engine room sounds, noises and alarms, total realism is achieved.

CUSTOMIZE THE SYSTEM TO YOUR TRAINING NEEDS

We tailor our K-Sim Engine simulators to your training facility’s specific needs. The engine control room may be represented by any combination of interactive mimic panels, operational panels/consoles.  The concept allows individually laid out control rooms to meet the exact customer’s requirements. As your training needs change, you can always upgrade or expand the system.

MAKE TRAINING AND STUDENT EVALUATION MORE PROFESSIONAL

K-Sim Engine Instructor system is designed to enhance the quality of simulation training by providing complete, intuitive and user-friendly control of student exercises. With an automatically recording of all activity during the exercise, a replay function for debriefing and a built-in assessment system, structured training and objective student evaluation have never been easier.

LNG Bunkering Training

According to IMO’s IGF Code of 2017 personnel working on vessels using gases or other low- flashpoint fuels must be properly trained.

K-Sim Engine includes a simulator model (the DE DF Cruise Ferry), which  is specially designed to provides both basic and advanced training for LNG bunkering operations. It provides a cost-efficient and safe way to build knowledge and test LNG bunkering procedures, while fulfilling IMO’s IGF Code and the STCW requirements.

High Voltage Training

Several of our K-Sim Engine models can be delivered with High Voltage (HV) functionality to meet the training requirements in the STCW Code.

By integrating K-Sim Engine models with a real HV circuit breaker, the electrical engineer students and crew can familiarize and get practical HV training. They will get enhanced understanding of the HV systems, and practice and develop safety procedures in a totally realistic and safe training environment.

BENEFIT FROM AN EXTENSIVE MODEL LIBRARY

K-Sim Engine’s product line includes the simulator models of high, medium and slow speed engines such as MAN Diesel, Wärtsilä, Pielstick, MaK and MTU, as well as gas turbine, diesel electric, water jet and steam propulsion.

COMPLIANCE WITH MARITIME TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

STCW Requirements for Training

All K-Sim simulator systems and models within the class A, B and C meets the IMO’s STCW requirements for training. In addition, several K-Sim Engine models are compliant with the IGF Code’s training requirements of crew working on low-flashpoint fuels.

DNV Certification

All K-Sim simulator systems and models within Class A, B and C are certified by Det Norske Veritas (DNV) according to the current standard DNV-ST-0033 Maritime simulator systems.
